    • Thanks, Jilanne – will head over there now and check it out. I love having snow on my blog in December (I wish I had some actual snow outside… but not yet…).

  1. Your passion for books shines through in your guest blog, Letizia. We just parted with dozens of sailing books. Alas, we never sailed, except vicariously through the adventures of others. Books indeed, transport us around the world.

    • Thanks for popping by Britt’s blog and reading my post, Lynne! You’re so right, books do transport us in so many ways! Perhaps you’ll sail another time….

  2. I’m amazed that your post made me love books even more and I didn’t think that was possible! I keep thinking about those chewed up ones now. 🙂 I hope you’ve found some good ones to get you through the winter hibernation!

  3. Ah! Your words are as great as ever, I love how you talk about books…it makes me quite like them myself. It’s always sad to have to cull books, (my copy of Mein Kampf is being saved for me happily) but the magic of holding those companions of old is just the warmest feeling for this kind of year…you make me happier than I would be had I received a leather bound copy of A Christmas Carol!

    • I’m glad to hear that you are starting to like books now (ha!)…. A leather bound copy of A Christmas Carol – that was going to be my Christmas present to you, now I have to think of something else as you’ve ruined the surprise! (inner thoughts: original copy of Blackadder script? History of Bearded Cartographers?… hmmm, maybe he already owns all this….)

      • Funny you should mention Cartographers, I am doing a vaguely map themed week, next week! Sadly I am without this beardy resource at the moment but I bet most Cartographers have beards…it’s been proven everyone in history did, except for Napoleon who was incapable of growing a beard or indeed any other part of him.

  4. A wonderful post, Letizia. You have spoken for many, including me! As C.S. Lewis once said,

“You can never get a cup of tea large enough or a book long enough to suit me.”

  5. Letizia love the post, what a cute dog you had, and love the two books, I too have some old books from my childhood. I agree, books are like snapshot of our life, when my dad pass away I got rid of most of my books they reminded me to much of him and what we went through with cancer and all, now I regret it, but for me it was a way of letting go. I tend to do that, I have a box full of books right now, none are art books ;).

    • I’m sorry to hear about your father Doris. Books are so personal so I understand your need to get rid of his books at that time; a ritual of sorts. In the end, we must do what feels right in the moment, what we need in the moment.

It’s great that you still have some books from your childhood. It’s rare that we keep these (at least for me) so it’s fun to have a few.

….the dog in the photo – she was one of two dogs we had at the time – the other was her twin from the same litter! They were so cute together, looking so alike 🙂

      • Oh don’t worry this happen 6 years ago, now I regret it, but I guess it helped me at the time. So you had two cute dogs lucky girl ;).

  6. The thought of re reading books never occurred to me until a few weeks ago, when I was drawn to read “The Spontaneous Fulfillment of Desire” by Deepak a Chopra again. I’ve been re reading it and boy am I glad! I think just like anything in life, it is a process of absorbing the information we need from life. I mean, there is so much stimulation in anything, art related or other wise, that our brains can only take in so much. Oh, I’m so inspired to begin re reading one of my favorite novels again today!

    Great post!

    Have a wonderful day!
    Lindsey

    • I agree, Lindsey, sometimes books seem to call to us to be read again. And, so often, we read them in a new light, find new meaning, discover new information, or are just reminded of why we loved them in the first place.

Hope you’re having a great weekend!
