If you and your family love to read, you may want to adopt the Icelandic tradition of Jolabokaflod, or the “Christmas Book Flood.”

On Christmas Eve, family members offer each other books and then everyone spends the night reading them in anticipation of Christmas day.

The tradition began during World War II when there were few other gift options, but has continued to flourish today. Iceland, in fact, publishes more books per capita, than any other country, and the months before Christmas are when most of the new books come out in anticipation of the Book Flood tradition (npr.com).
